Motobecane Serial Number Decoder

Thanks to all for the advice about it in the other thread. She has a light set on the bike she already has (which is a men's frame Raleigh, and the top tube is too high for her, hence the search for something different). I bought new tires and tubes for it, and will add a cargo rack, mirror and some fenders. I've made some adjustments, and still need to tweak the settings on the front derailleur a bit more, but it rides just fine. There's a lot of road-splatter on the underside of the downtube, but otherwise it's clean and doesn't appear to have sustained any injuries. All in all, it looks to be in quite decent shape.

Hopped in the truck to go have a look-see, and ended up bringing it home. I was hunting for a decent bike for my sister-in-law, and this one caught my eye at a decent price. I'd posted about this one on the Classified page to see if anybody had any insights about it.
